Fit for thermoforming: directly extruded, mechanically recyclable PE foam
Adligenswil, Switzerland, August 2025 - Until now, highly crosslinked PE foams were necessary for thermoforming, due to their excellent heat stability. Sekisui Alveo now offers manufacturers an alternative that is equally compelling and even 100% recyclable: Alveocel LLT LV, a directly extruded PE foam meeting the most stringent industrial requirements.
The new directly extruded PE foam boasts excellent thermoforming properties while meeting stringent emission and OEM performance requirements, e.g. DBL 1000, VW 50180, DBL 5455. Alveocel LLT LV also passes the most important flammability requirements, FMVSS 302 and ISO 3795, and can be ISCC PLUS certified.
Thermoforming stability
Thanks to its unique foam composition and process optimisation, this directly extruded PE foam is highly stable and much less prone to rupture when heated up: Alveocel LLT LV is fit to be used in vacuum forming processes. Its heat stability is firmly more comparable to that of highly crosslinked foams than to the heat stability of any existing directly extruded PE foams.

Transportation industry
Alveocel LLT LV is specifically designed for thermoforming applications. Currently, most interest is seen in the transportation industry for water shields and interior protection. For complex geometries, e.g. air ducts, it is worthwhile to check its suitability; depending on part geometry it is certainly possible to achieve good performance.
Comparison
The new PE foam is closing the gap in thermoforming performance between highly crosslinked Alveolen NLT LV foam grades and standard Alveocel LA foam grades.
Recyclability
Thermoforming performance is one benefit. The other is recyclability: Alveocel LLT LV is 100% mechanically recyclable. It is easy to re-granulate and to reintroduce the granules into the foam extrusion process.

In coordination with the Application Service Laboratory, Sekisui Alveo offers its customers premium support. This support regards conversion techniques and production of prototypes, related tests and transfer of process know-how.
