Greater safety and comfort

Foam materials from Sekisui Alveo improve safety footwear and sports equipment

Lucerne / Düsseldorf, 24 October 2007 – Workplace accidents may be an all-too-common occurrence, but special safety footwear can help to reduce the risk of foot injuries in the workplace. At the same time, footwear needs to be comfortable as well as safe if wearers spend all of the working day on their feet. Sekisui Alveo, manufacturer of polyolefin foams, produces specialized foams that are used in shoes and shoe soles. To meet the tough demands of safety footwear, the company has refined and improved its foam materials: Alveolen NACO II is softer and more flexible than its predecessor, yet still has all of the properties, including the ability to conduct electricity, required to meet today’s safety standards. Besides NACO II, visitors to the K 2007 trade show can also find out about Evalen, the company’s new foam. Based on ethyl vinyl acetate – known as EVA for short –, Evalen is expected to reach markets in 2008. Intended areas of use include sports footwear, ski boots, and body protection.
