Application

Roofing and cladding constructions require a multifunctional sealing material between roof profile and wall base to prevent thermal losses and condensation effects as well as insect or dust penetration and airborne sound transmission.
Main requirements are:

  • good sealing against air, dust, etc.
  • good dimensional stability, unaffected by sunshine, water, vapour, chemicals
  • good UV and rot resistance
  • good durability

Product description

Alveolit and Alveolen are light weight resilient, soft elastic, crosslinked closed cell polyethylene (PE) foams.


Because they are crosslinked and closed cell, they provide an optimum combination of mechanical and chemical properties and offer an ideal replacement for traditional materials such as EPDM, PU and PVC.
The manufacturing processes do not use CFCs, plasticizers or toxic heavy metal based substances.


Alveolit and Alveolen offer the following main features:

Fabrication Guide

Alveolit and Alveolen are easy to die cut with standard die cutting tools or where required flame- or IR heat laminated to other materials.


Product Guide

Alveolit and Alveolen are supplied in roll form (max. thickness 20 mm) and board form (ca. 35 mm), in a density range between 25 and 250 kg/m³.
When required, special flame retardant types meeting e.g. DIN 4102-B1 or B2, French M1 classification are available. A wide colour range is available on request.


Depending on the filler design, compressive strength, application temperature and cost requirements, the right Sekisui Alveo foam type and grade can be chosen.
Main criteria are compressibility/flexibility and thermal stability at higher temperatures. In general, lower density foams have an improved product compressibility/flexibility but show higher linear shrinkage values when compared to higher density foams.
UV stability also improves with density and is best in dark colours (e.g. anthracite, deep black) and soft elastic EVA foam types.


Typical densities used lie in the range 30 to 50 kg/m³ for Alveolit TA, Alveolen NA and TT, NT.
Sekisui Alveo soft (EVA) foam types (TE/TEE 3000 or NEE 3300) are highly compressive but more sensitive to high application temperatures and should only be used after preliminary testing.
