Weight savings up to 82 percent
Lightweight polyolefin foams support CO2 reduction
Lucerne, September 11, 2007 – Automobile manufacturers face a dilemma: the order of the day is to save weight, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. On the other hand, nobody wants to do without safety systems or the convenience of navigation systems, air conditioning and other comforts – which add weight to vehicles. At the IAA, polyolefin foam manufacturer Sekisui Alveo AG is presenting some interesting solutions with enormous potential for saving weight. Alveolen and Alveolit foams can easily replace many hard plastic components in vehicles, cutting the weight by up to 82 percent. The compact, efficient, featherweights open new possibilities for carmakers and help to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. And regarding laws for end-of-life vehicles, these foams are also winners when it comes to recycling.
